Burkina Faso part ways with Drissa Malo Traore

Burkina Faso have parted ways with head coach Drissa Malo Traore, who handled the Stallions' home-based squad.

The West Africans were eliminated in the first round of the African Nations Championship, which was conducted in Morocco earlier this year, and the head coach has not had his contract renewed.

Traore - nicknamed Saboteur - was under contract until March 31, and the Burkinabe Football Federation have opted not to renew it, according to Sportdrome.

The tactician was appointed in April 2015, and began his tenure by failing to reach the 2016 CHAN after the Stallions were defeated by Nigeria.

He's respected in his homeland after overseeing Burkina Faso's first African Cup of Nations campaign - in 1996 - but left his post before their final group game.

However, his side underperformed at the CHAN when they fell at the first hurdle, taking just two points from a group containing Cameroon, Angola and Congo-Brazzaville.

"I have no regrets," Saboteur told journalists after Burkina Faso's young side were eliminated from the CHAN.

"The same team that played here played at a high level during the qualifiers and during the preparation matches," he added. "If we didn't win, it's not the end of the world.

"It's not the first time that a team have lost at a tournament finals," Traore concluded. "So I can't have any regrets to have chosen these youngsters who have battled for the cause for so long."
