Baby named River Plate ahead of Copa Libertadores showdown with Boca Juniors

River Plate take on Boca Junios in the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday and one Argentinian couple have marked the monumental showdown in a rather unique way -- naming their new-born after one of the finalists.

River Plate was welcomed into the world ahead of the big kickoff against Boca Juniors and River's father Nahuel Eduardo Bejarano said: "I asked my wife if she would give me the possibility to call him River and as her surname is Plate, everything would match. She said yes and that we would see later on. As time went by, that idea was asserted."

The baby was born on Oct. 16, in Pinama, a town in the Buenos Aires province, and was registered as Agustin Enzo River Plate Bejerano.

"At the beginning he was going to be called Enzo as the main name because of the prince [former Uruguay and River Plate star Enzo Francescoli] who is my idol," Nahuel Bejerano said.

Asked if his wife, Ana Sofia, is a River Plate fan, Bejerano jokingly said: "She sympathises [with River].

"Now she has to adopt it because at home it's all about River. We wake up with River, we go to bed with River."

Boca host River in the Copa Liberadores final first leg on Saturday, with the return leg at the Monumental on Nov. 24.

"I hope we can enjoy this unique show," Bejerano said. "I hope we have the possibility to experience [a Libertadores final] again in the future."
