What price for victory? Honduras forced to rebook flights home

Can you put a price on victory?

CONCACAF side Honduras can.

The lone remaining men's team from the region were so sure they would lose in the group stage at the Rio Olympics that they had gone ahead and booked travel for the more than 30 players and staff back home for Friday -- at the end of the first round.

It has turned out to be a $7,500 mistake. But what a happy one it was.

Los Catrachos upset strong sides Portugal and Argentina in the group stage and got past Korea Republic in the quarterfinals. Now they are preparing to face host Brazil at the Maracana on Wednesday in the semifinal.

It bears repeating that this is also the team that eliminated the United States in Olympic qualifying last fall.

Honduras coach Jorge Luis Pinto said the goal ahead of the Olympics was to reach the semifinal, but now Honduras are dreaming of a major upset over Brazil.
