Home United utility Irfan Fandi is in talks with Bangkok Glass about a move to the Thai League (T1) side for the 2018 season, but admits his ultimate ambition is to play in Europe.
The 20-year-old has already established himself as a regulation in the Singapore national team, and could now be in line to take a step up from the S.League to T1.
The Thai League is introducing a new ASEAN quota from 2018, facilitating the transfer of players from the region.
Singapore goalkeeper Hassan Sunny has been linked with a return to Thailand, having played for Army United for two years, and Irfan is the latest Singaporean to catch the eye of T1 clubs.
"My dad and agent are still talking to them [Bangkok Glass], and we are trying to work something out," Irfan, who can play centre-back or striker, told The New Paper.
"I still have plans to play in Europe, and the contract they offered is for more than a year... so I consider that long-term.
"If I am able to play professionally in Europe, that would obviously be the best case scenario. I don't want to be stuck here [in the region]."
Bangkok Glass had a disappointing year, with the decision to release head coach Aurelio Vidmar in July failing to pay dividends. The club finished the season in fifth place, but lost the final three games and won just two of the last 10 T1 fixtures.
Nevertheless, Irfan is flattered to be linked with the club who finished in third spot in 2016.
"I think I had a good season, but I did not think clubs overseas were interested in me," Irfan said.
"When I found out they [Bangkok Glass] were keen on me, I immediately looked up the squad and they have very good players... So I was shocked my name came up."
