Four Laos players 'provisionally suspended' for match-fixing - AFC

The Asian Football Confederation has provisionally suspended four Laos international players for 60 days for suspected match-fixing.

The players are Saynakhonevieng Phommapanya, Chintana Souksavath, Moukda Souksavath and Phatthana Syvilay.

They were banned on Monday as their "ongoing participation provided a direct threat to the integrity" in the AFC Solidarity Cup in Malaysia.

The quartet played in Laos' first game in the tournament, which saw a 2-1 win against Sri Lanka on Nov. 3.

But the AFC said its ban was not just related to the Solidarity Cup, but because of "suspected manipulation of multiple matches committed by the representative teams of Laos since 2010".

The AFC added that the ongoing investigation, in partnership with the FIFA Integrity Unit and sports data provider Sportradar, is targeted at more than the quartet named on Monday.

"The AFC takes a zero tolerance approach to match manipulation, as stated as a core pillar of the AFC Vision and Mission launched in January 2016," read an official statement from the organisation's Kuala Lumpur headquarters.

Laos failed to book a spot at this month's AFF Suzuki Cup in Philippines and Myanmar, finishing in second place in October's AFF qualification tournament, behind host nation Cambodia.
