Bayern Munich technical director Michael Reschke leaves for Stuttgart

Bayern Munich have announced that technical director Michael Reschke is leaving to join Stuttgart.

Three-time Bundesliga champions Stuttgart confirmed that Reschke would officially take over his new role as sporting director at the end of August. His appointment follows the sacking of Jan Schindelmeiser as technical director on Friday.

The 59-year-old joined Bayern in 2014 after 35 years at Bayer Leverkusen and said earlier this year: "I have a very tight relationship of trust with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeness and many other FCB employees. There's no alternative to Bayern Munich for me."

On Monday, however, Bayern named Hasan Salihamidzic as their new sporting director. Salihamidzic, 40, a former Bayern and Juventus midfielder, was brought in above Reschke in the Bayern hierarchy.

Reschke informed the club that he had received offers from other clubs before they went on their 12-day tour of China and Singapore and asked to be released from his contract, Bayern announced in a statement.

"We didn't want to deny Michael Reschke the chance to become VfB Stuttgart's Sporting Director," CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "On behalf of Bayern Munich, I thank Michael Reschke for his excellent work in the past three years.

"With his expertise, professionalism and network, he has played an important part in Bayern's success. I wish him all the best for his future."

Commenting on his time at Bayern, Reschke added: The open and trusting working relationship with Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has shaped me. Through this, I've made new and valued experiences.

"I highly appreciate that and want to thank them both. I've worked fantastically together with Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola, the players, colleagues and employees. I want to thank them too.

"It's a shame that I will no longer have the opportunity to work together with the new sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. I have a very good and friendly relationship and respect him a great deal. But in life there are opportunities and challenges that you must accept. The opportunity to become Sporting Director at VfB Stuttgart is such an opportunity for me."

Reschke was most recently responsible for the signings of Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule, Sebastian Rudy, Serge Gnabry -- now on loan at Hoffenheim -- and record purchase Corentin Tolisso from Lyon.
