Austria won't renew contract of coach Marcel Koller after 2017

Austria coach Marcel Koller is leaving the national team at the end of the year.

The Austrian football federation announced on Friday that it decided not to renew his contract, ending the Swiss coach's six-year stint in charge.

"Koller has to be thanked for his great work but the sober reality is that we won four of our last 18 games. In the end only the results count," Federation president Leo Windtner said.

Koller will still be in charge of the team for its final two World Cup qualifiers, against Serbia and Moldova in October.

Austria are unlikely to qualify for next year's tournament in Russia, though they still have a mathematical chance of finishing second in Group D.

They are in fourth place, five points back of second-placed Wales and four behind Republic of Ireland with two games remaining against Serbia and Moldova.
