Roma fan admits violent disorder at Liverpool Champions League semifinal

A Roma supporter accused of injuring a Liverpool fan before the teams met in the Champions League semifinal at Anfield in April has admitted violent disorder.

Filippo Lombardi had denied the charge but changed his plea at a pre-trial review hearing at Preston Crown Court and has been remanded in custody.

Lombardi, 21, who will be tried next month, admitted of being part of a group that used or threatened unlawful violence but denied wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm on Sean Cox.

The 53-year-old Liverpool fan, from Ireland, suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked outside Anfield before the match. He has emerged from a coma but remains in a serious condition.

Last month, Daniele Sciusco, a 29-year-old from Rome, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for his part in the violence after he admitted violent disorder.
