Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas has signed a new three-year contract with Team Sky.

Thomas, 32, has been with the team since its inception in 2010 but was subject to offers from other teams following his victory at the Tour de France.

With Thomas' deal set to expire at the end of 2018 and his position in the team alongside four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome still unclear, the Welshman was offered the chance to become the main man somewhere else.

But Thomas revealed his plans to stay with Sky at his Cardiff homecoming in August and has now extended his contract until the end of the 2021 season.

"I'm pleased it's sorted -- and delighted to be staying with the team," Thomas told TeamSky.com.

"It's been a great journey for me with Team Sky and obviously the last few months have been crazy. It's working really well for me here and I'm excited about what's still to come.

"I feel at home with the Team. I've known Dave (Brailsford), Rod (Ellingworth) and Fran (Millar) for years, since I was 17, so it's great that I'll be continuing to work alongside those guys and the rest of the Team."

Thomas' contract was announced as the Tour of Britain arrived in London for its final stage. The Welshman addressed fans outside of the Team Sky coach alongside Brailsford at the end of the stage.
