Shardul Vihan became the third Indian teenager to win a shooting medal at this year's Asian Games after shooting a score of 73 in the final. He had earlier topped the qualification round with a score of 141. South Korea's Hyunwoo Shin and Qatar's Hamad Ali Al Marri won gold and bronze respectively with scores of 74 and 53 respectively. He became the third Indian to medal in the double trap event at the Asian Games. Ronjan Sodhi won gold in 2010 while Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won silver in 2006. He's the third teenager after Saurabh Chaudhary (gold in 10m air pistol) and Lakshay Sheoran (silver in trap) to win a shooting medal for India in Palembang. Vihan, who hails from Meerut, started competing in junior competitions in 2015 and finished sixth in the same event at the junior World Championships in 2017. Vihan was appearing in his first senior competition but that did not seem to faze him as he got off to a perfect start in the final by hitting the first 10 clays. His first miss came on the 11th shot but he continued to lead with the Korean till the first elimination at the end of 30 shots. Shin, who had finished fifth in the same event in the last Asian Games in Incheon in 2014, then led till the end as Vihan maintained a high level of shooting but failed to catch up. Vihan will next be in action at the World Championships in Changwon in South Korea next month.
