Samurai beat hosts Kenya to win Safari 7s title

British side Samurai RFC are the 2018 Safari Rugby Sevens champions after seeing off Kenya Shujaa 21-14 in Sunday's final.

The 12-team competition climaxed with a huge crowd at the RFUEA grounds on Ngong Road in Nairobi.

Samurai had Ruan Mostert, Hugo Stiels and Kurt-Lee Arendse score the tries, while Van Niekerk Angus and Augustine Lugonzo had perfect kicks for conversions.

Kenya Shujaa picked their tries through Johnstone Olindi and Daniel Taabu. The conversions were good.

To reach the final Kenya Shujaa humbled their counterparts in the Sevens World Series, Spain, 31-26 in the semis, while Samurai defeated Kenya Morans 15-7.

Spain managed to finish fourth after they lost 12-5 to Kenya Morans in the classification game.

Kenya Shujaa, Kenya Morans, Uganda Cranes, Uganda emerging Cranes, Namibia, Portugal, Spain, Kenyan league sides Homeboyz and Stanbic Mwamba, English sides Apache, Samurai and Red Wailers contested the tournament.

Spain and Kenya Shujaa will now shift attention for the first leg of the Sevens World Series with the Dubai 7s early next month.
