Sharks, WP in Currie Cup final showdown

Western Province beat the Blue Bulls in an extra time thriller at Newlands to earn a home Currie Cup final.

The Bulls scored two tries in the first half to take a shock 17-15 lead into the break against the home team, who won all their matches in the league stage with a bonus point and by 22 points or more.

Western Province fought back brilliantly in the second half and were 32-27 ahead when the hooter sounded for the end of the 80 minutes. However, Blitsboks' star Dylan Sage scored in the right corner for the Bulls to level the scores after the WP scrum buckled under pressure at the death.

Bulls flyhalf Manie Libbok, who had a top game, then had a kick to win the semi-final, but It drifted wide and the match went into the extra time.

After a scoreless first 10 minutes of extra time, WP wing SP Marias converted a pressure penalty early in the second stanza to give his side the lead with about seven minutes to go.

WP then held on to win the clash continue their unbeaten streak in the tournament.

Sharks 33 Golden Lions 24

The Sharks booked their place in the Currie Cup final after they tamed the Golden Lions at Kings Park in Durban.

The home side, who secured their second successive final berth, dominated the first half and managed to take a 18-3 into the break.

The Lions fought back in the second stanza and came within two points of upsetting the Sharks. However, Dan du Preez scored a try in the dying minutes off a scrum which helped the Sharks to seal the deal.
