Stade de France to host Rugby World Cup 2023 final

Rugby

The Rugby World Cup 2023 final is set to be played at the Stade de France, according to France's bid leader Claude Atcher.

The 62-year-old also revealed that the venue will hold the opening match of the tournament, including the two semi-finals.

Atcher also announced that at least one World Cup match will be hosted in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Saint-Étienne and Toulouse.

"Potentially, there will be between seven to ten matches (played at Saint-Denis)," Archer is quoted as saying in L'Équipe.

The 80,000-seater stadium also hosted the semi-finals and the final when the tournament took place in France back in 2007.

The venue has been home to the French national team since they moved out of the Parc de Princes stadium in 1997.
