The Golden Lions secured their place in a Currie Cup semifinal with a 33-21 win over the Pumas in Nelspruit on Friday night.

Who they play in next weekend's playoff is still to be decided by Saturday's fixtures.

The visitors scored five tries on the way to their win with Courtnall Skosan and Corne Fourie bagging a brace each with Lionel Mapoe scoring his team's fifth on the way to their bonus point win.

The Lions got off to the best possible start with Lionel Mapoe crossing the line to score in the first minute.

Devon Williams hit back for the hosts just minutes later as the Pumas levelled the scores.

The sides traded blows again when Corne Fourie scored his only try before the Pumas took advantage of a Howard Mnisi yellow card to equalize for a second time.

Skosan then scored five-pointers in a row, the second while Francois Kleinhans was serving time in the sin bin, before Fourie completed his double for the Lions to pull further ahead.

The Pumas threatened to stage an impressive comeback when Ryan Nell scored in the 67th minute, but the Lions' total was too much as they held on for a comfortable win.
