Kenya coach Snook confident of Gold Cup win over Namibia

Kenya Simbas' head coach Ian Snook feels his team is capable of getting a critical win against Namibia in Windhoek on Saturday, and qualify directly for the 2019 World Cup.

Namibia, who lead the Africa Gold Cup/World Cup qualifier table with 20 points, are unbeaten and need only a draw to take the title, while Kenya sit on 17 points in second and must win to secure four points.

The winner of the Africa Gold Cup will qualify directly for the 2019 World Cup to be held in Japan. The second placed team will battle in the repechage competition in France with three other teams.

"The boys will have to play their best game ever in the campaign and I am confident we can do it. We can pick up a win in Namibia," Snook told the media on Tuesday, after naming the team for their final match of the tournament.

"It has been difficult with no warm up games. The Tunisian game last weekend provided a bit of everything which the players will learn from.

"I'm expecting that the players to be ready for an 80-minute effort and are really looking forward to it," added the coach. The coach named a team including Dalmus Chituyi, Felix Ayange and Curtis Lilako, who all return for Kenya's final game. Chituyi, the two try hero in the 45-36 win over Zimbabwe on 30 June, missed last weekend's 67-0 win over Tunisia through injury.

Former Kenya Sevens international Ayange, who was recovering from the effects of a root canal, also returns together with Lilako, who last featured on against Zimbabwe on 30 June.

"We know this is a do or die for us against a side that has won all their games with bonus points. But we are confident we can do it," skipper Davis Chenge said.
