Three men have been fined a combined £710 for verbally abusing England coach Eddie Jones at a Manchester train station in February.

The trio hurled insults at Jones as he waited for a car to Old Trafford at Manchester Oxford Road station, the morning after England had lost to Scotland in Edinburgh.

Richie Cleeton, 22, Connor Inglis, 25, and Brett Grant, 23, all pleaded guilty to a public order offence at Manchester Magistrates' Court.

Video footage was released that showed Jones posing for selfies with the Scottish fans at the station before the group turned on him, with one opening the door of the car to call him a "baldy ----".

Jones, who did not make a statement, was described by the driver of the car as appearing to be "quite shaken" by the incident and he said he believed it "may have become physical" had it been allowed to escalate.

Chairman of the bench Joe Bangudu described the trio's language as "vile" and said: "no one should ever have to put up with such language and behaviour."

Cleeton, of Carrick Knowe Avenue, was fined £120, Inglis, of Cornhill Terrace, received a fine of £105 and Grant, of Drum Crescent, was fined £140. All three were also ordered to pay court costs of £115 each.

A fourth defendant, Dale Cleeton, 25, pleaded not guilty and will go on trial in August.
