Juan Pablo Socino to swap Newcastle for Edinburgh next season

Rugby, Guinness PRO12, Aviva Premiership

Newcastle Falcons centre Juan Pablo Socino has agreed to join Edinburgh ahead of next season.

Socino, 29, has signed a two-year contract with the PRO14 club, following four years at Kingston Park during which he won four Argentina caps and played at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

He has scored 166 points in 87 appearances for Newcastle, but is excited by the challenge awaiting him in Scotland.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Edinburgh next season in what I believe is an ambitious project that I can't wait to get stuck into," Socino said.

"Edinburgh is a great city with a huge rugby culture and I want to contribute to that with everything I can.

"The opportunity to play in a new competition -- the Guinness PRO14 -- and in a new country is also hugely exciting from a personal point of view."

Socino first moved to the UK with Rotherham Titans in 2010, and also represented Nottingham in the RFU Championship.

"He's a fantastic player, who has showcased his attacking talents at both Newcastle and Rotherham," Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill said. "He's an experienced, strong ball carrier and he will only improve our squad heading into next season."
