Investigation clears Johan, Ruan Ackermann in nightclub incident

Rugby, Aviva Premiership

Gloucester head coach Johan Ackermann and his son Ruan will face no action from police over an incident in a nightclub, Gloucestershire Constabulary have confirmed.

The incident took place at the 21 Club in Cheltenham in December, shortly after Zebre had been defeated 69-12 in a Challenge Cup match at Kingsholm.

The Ackermanns were given Gloucester's full backing throughout the subsequent police inquiry, which on Wednesday cleared them of any wrongdoing.

"A police investigation into a recent incident involving Johan and Ruan Ackermann has confirmed that no further action will be taken," a club spokesman said.

"Having fully supported Johan and Ruan throughout this process, we are delighted with the outcome of the investigation.

"This news allows everyone involved to move on and to focus on an important few weeks on the pitch in the run-in to the end of the season."

Former South Africa international Ackermann and his son, a No. 8, joined Gloucester ahead of the 2017-18 season and have helped place the club in Aviva Premiership title contention.
