Injera, Odhiambo return for Kenya's North America trip

Kenya's sevens rugby team, Shujaa, will be bolstered by the return of two key players for the HSBC Sevens Series tournaments in USA and Canada.

Collins Injera recovered from a hamstring injury which has kept him out of action since December's season opener in Dubai.

The flyer is second on the international sevens circuit's all-time try scorers list, and as such will be a key member of the 13-man squad coach Innocent Simiyu has named for the USA and Canada rounds of the 2017-18 campaign.

Billy Odhiambo, who plays with Injera at local level for Stanbic Mwamba, will also make the flight to North America for what will be his appearances of the season after missing the opening four rounds because of a shoulder injury.

Making way for the duo will be Brian Tanga (Kabras Sugar) and Augustine Lugonzo (Menengai Cream Homeboyz) who were part of the squad who regained form in Sydney and Hamilton following a disappointing tournament in Cape Town.

Coach Simiyu is particularly pleased to follow up their return to form with the addition of two key players.

"Collins Injera brings a wealth of experience in the team and an added advantage in terms of motivation," Simiyu commented in a Kenya Rugby Union press release.

"We also have Billy Odhiambo who is a powerful runner and we managed to work with him during the pre-season. We're quite interested to see how he will play... this being his first outing this season."

Kenya have been grouped in Pool A with Fiji, France and Russia for the USA Sevens in Las Vegas from 2-4 March.
