Top 14 side Bordeaux-Begles have appointed former England skills coach Rory Teague as their new head coach after Jacques Brunel stepped down to lead the French national team.

Teague makes the step up from being attack coach with the club who are sitting four points off Toulon, Toulouse and Lyon in joint fifth ahead of a home clash with the latter this weekend.

He left his position with the England national team at the end of last summer and was joined at the south-west French club by former Ireland lock Jeremy Davidson as forwards coach, with former England backrow Joe Worsley already in place as defence coach.

Brunel was appointed head coach of France last week after Guy Noves won just seven out of 22 matches while in charge.

Teague played at Gloucester, Bristol and had stints in France with Aurillac and Grenoble during his playing career. He was Academy coach at Wasps and Saracens before he joined the England U20s coaching team in 2016 and moved up to skills coach under Eddie Jones in January 2017.
