England coach Eddie Jones has been forced to rule five men out of his new year training camp in Brighton after the weekend fixtures took a heavy toll.

Bath pair Charlie Ewels and Jonathan Joseph, Northampton fly-half Piers Francis and Exeter winger Jack Nowell and prop Harry Williams did not join up with the rest of the squad on Monday, the Rugby Football Union announced.

Francis and Williams both missed out with concussion while Ewels has a hamstring injury, Joseph a dead leg and Nowell an ankle problem, prompting Jones to draft in Bath prop Henry Thomas and London Irish winger Joe Cokanasiga.

An RFU statement said: "Following injuries sustained on the weekend, Charlie Ewels (hamstring), Piers Francis (concussion), Jonathan Joseph (dead leg), Jack Nowell (ankle) and Harry Williams (concussion) will not join up with England for their training camp today. Henry Thomas (Bath Rugby) and Joe Cokanasiga (London Irish) have been called up into the squad for the two-day camp in Brighton."

Jones initially named a 34-man party for the pre-Six Nations training camp and included uncapped Bath prop Beno Obano and Newcastle flanker Gary Graham.
