It was quite breezy on the first day of the Cape Town Sevens, with plastic bottles and food wrappers, as well as the occasional hat, flying around the stadium towards the end of the day's play on Saturday.

But the day will probably be remembered for a player who runs like wind, rather then the southeaster that belted the stadium just a few 100 metres from the Atlantic Ocean.

Seabelo Senatla has become a cult hero in South Africa for his exploits with the Springbok Sevens team, and on Saturday he got a few extra cheers when he scored his 200th try in his 35th tournament on the circuit.

The Blitzbok star scored a hat trick in their first match against Russia to take his tally to 199 tries. The Stormers speedster then scored his 200th in the second match against France, before adding another one in the final fixture of the day against Kenya -- his 12th try of the season after scoring seven in Dubai the previous week.

Those tries helped the home side to qualify for the quarter-finals unbeaten in their quest to go back-to-back following their win in the Emirates. The South Africans beat Russia 40-5, before seeing off France 31-5. The Blitzboks then rounded off the day with a 26-7 win over fellow Africans Kenya.

South Africa will take on Fiji in the first Cup quarter-final, while Kenya meet Samoa in the Challenge quarter-final.

One of the biggest cheers of the day belonged to the United States when they beat New Zealand 22-0 in one of the upsets of the day. The Kiwis, though, did bounce back to beat Spain 50-0, before beating Australia 35-12 to qualify for the Cup quarter-finals.

The Kiwis will now face England in a blockbuster quarter-final, while the United States take on Argentina. Canada and France clash in the other last-eight match in the Cup.

The Aussies didn't qualify for the cup competition after they also went down to the United States. The team from Down Under will take on Uganda in the Challenge quarter-finals.
