Reigning PRO12 champions Llanelli Scarlets have offered Tadgh Beirne a new deal as they look to keep the in form Irish lock in South West Wales.

Beirne has been linked with a return to his homeland with Munster, but Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac has revealed that the region have made an offer to the Irishman.

"We've spoken to to Tadhg's agent and to Tadhg and we've offered him an extension on his contract," Pivac told BBC Sport.

"At the moment he has a bit of a dilemma in that he is playing so well that all of a sudden there are some noises coming out of Ireland.

"I don't think they wanted to know him 12 months ago, and that's why he came here to the Scarlets to get some regular rugby.

"He's one we will continue to talk to and he has another big season coming up here."

The former Ireland U20 player moved to Scarlets last year after being released by Leinster, but after a series of good performances for Scarlets, Beirne is being linked with a call up to the Ireland squad.

"He has a bit of a dilemma in that he is playing so well that all of a sudden there are some noises coming out of Ireland," said Pivac

"I don't think they wanted to know him 12 months ago, and that's why he came here to the Scarlets to get some regular rugby.

"Like any young Welsh guy wanting to play for Wales, he wants to play for Ireland and who can blame him? We'll wait and see how that one pans out."

Pivac also revealed that 20 Scarlets players are entering the last year of their contracts, including Wales internationals Scott Williams, Gareth Davies and Jake Ball, but Pivac is not concerned.

"We have identified the ones we want to touch base with very early and get those done and we would like to think we would get all the players coming off contract dealt with as soon as possible."

Scarlets have added Leigh Halfpenny to their lineup this summer, while Liam Williams has departed for Premiership side Saracens.
