Ruan Ackermann joins Gloucester from Super Rugby finalists Lions

Rugby, Super Rugby, Aviva Premiership

Ruan Ackermann has joined Gloucester from Super Rugby finalists Lions, subject to visa clearance.

The South African flanker is the son of incoming head coach, Johan Ackermann.

Ackermann started at No. 8 as the Lions lost in the Super Rugby final last weekend.

Gloucester's Director of Rugby David Humphreys spoke of his delight about the 21-year-old's arrival at Kingsholm: "We are pleased that we have been able to bring Ruan on board.

"Ruan has proved time and time again in Super Rugby this season how capable a player he is, taking on and matching some quality performers, and has also demonstrated his versatility in playing across the back row."

Ackermann was involved with the South Africa 'A' side in June and there are hopes that he can force his way into the full Springboks side in the near future.
