Ruan Ackermann could soon link up with his father Johan at Gloucester, according to reports in South Africa.

Ackermann Sr. is due to arrive at Kingsholm later this week as the Cherry and Whites prepare for their preseason tour of Portugal.

The new Gloucester head coach will not have long to bed into his new surroundings as the squad depart the UK on Saturday, before flying straight to Dublin for a friendly against Leinster the following weekend.

But he could soon be joined in south-west England by a familiar face after South African newspaper Rapport claimed his former employers at the Lions had accepted a "competitive" offer for son Ruan.

The No. 8 played 70 minutes as the 14-man Lions lost the Super Rugby final to the Crusaders last Saturday.

In the build-up to that game Ackermann Jr. hinted that he would be staying in South Africa as he said he would have to "say goodbye" to his dad following the Ellis Park showpiece.

Gloucester were contacted but declined to comment.
