The Wallaroos have suffered a 45-5 loss at the hands of Canada in the final match of the International Women's Rugby Series in New Zealand.

The Canadians ran in seven tries to one, with Australia's lone try being scored by Queensland-based prop Hilisha Samoa at the beginning of the second half.

Despite the heavy loss, Wallaroos' coach Paul Verrell said the match was important for the team's preparation heading into the World Cup in August.

"We've uncovered some talented new players across the three matches with 11 new players earning their first caps," Verrell said to the ARU after the match.

"The focus now is to ensure we continue to build in the six week block we have to prepare for the World Cup."

The team will reunite in later in the year before heading to Ireland for the World Cup.
