Nick Evans sidelined for 12 weeks with a broken leg

Aviva Premiership

Nick Evans looks likely to miss the rest of the regular Aviva Premiership season after Harlequins confirmed the fly-half would be sidelined for 12 weeks with a broken leg.

Evans, who picked up the injury during his side's 28-6 defeat to Gloucester last Saturday, underwent surgery this week with Harlequins hopeful he will be back in action by early May.

The final round of regular Premiership fixtures are scheduled for May 7, putting the New Zealander's involvement in some doubt.

However, the time frame for Evans' recovery could allow him to play a part in the end-of-season playoffs, were Harlequins to qualify.

Harlequins currently sit fifth in the Premiership table, level on points with Wasps who occupy the fourth and final playoff spot with 10 games to go.

Ben Botica has been named to start in Evans' place against Leicester on Friday night, with srum-half Sam Egerton, who signed a short-term deal with the club this week, among the replacements.
