Match Commentary

82'

So what next? Wales will be confident of winning their eighth match in a row at home to Tonga next Saturday while Australia face a trip to Rome to face the Azzurri. They surely have to win that one, don't they?

For now the rugby keeps on coming, and you can click here for live commentary of France vs South Africa. Bye for now!

82'Australia captain Michael Hooper: "Our defence was great and we were able to repel them, but credit to Wales they stuck at it and were really strong. It's been a long time for them and you can see how badly they wanted to win. But it really hurts. We'll regroup, we've got two more matches [this month] and we've got a lot to play for. I back everyone, the coaching staff and the players."
82'That is a tough match to lose and Australia must be extremely frustrated. In a close, low-scoring match, they chose to kick for touch several times instead of kicking at goal. It's their eighth defeat of the year, the most they've suffered since the 1970s.
82'Man of the match Justin Tipuric: "It's a big result. We've been wanting this result for a while and we'll take any win we can. This is our seventh in a row and we are building good momentum. We pride ourselves on defence and that's what won us the game."
82'That was far from a classic but it's a massive result for Wales. It's their first win against Australia since 2008 and is their seventh win in a row. From the way the Wales players are celebrating, you can tell that the result is all that matters to them.
81'+29-6 End of second half
80'Toomua out wide to Folau... This is it... Penalty Wales! They've beaten Australia for the first time in 14 games.
80'Australia are into the Wales half.
80'We're into the red. Justin Tipuric has just been announced as the man of the match for his work at the breakdown.
79'Australia have one last attack to steal the game. Josh Adams does brilliantly to read Genia's kick as Australia try to build. Wales have nowhere to go and turn it over before conceding a penalty. Australia will have a scrum on the half-way line.
78'
That might have been Biggar's first touch and how important could it be? He keeps his cool from the right side to slot the penalty through the posts. Wales are back in front and have two minutes to hold on.
77'9-6 Penalty goal - Dan Biggar , Wales
76'Dan Biggar is on at No.10 and the fly-half will kick at goal to restore Wales' lead after Australia give away a penalty at the breakdown.
75'Amid furious boos, Matt Toomua keeps his cool to level the scores. That was a great kick under significant pressure, out on the right-hand side and about 35m from goal.
75'6-6 Penalty goal - Matt To'omua , Australia
74'Australia win a penalty, but there's more uproar in the Principality Stadium after Halfpenny is flattened by Samu Kerevi. Halfpenny had kicked it clear but Kerevi thundered into him as he tried to make the block. The referee says it was accidental as Kerevi had already turned his back. It looks bad, but it's the right call.
74'Player substituted - Leigh Halfpenny , Wales
74'Substitute on - Dan Biggar , Wales
72'Anscombe hangs it up in the air and Beale spills under pressure from Liam Williams, but Australia win it back.
71'Substitute on - Ned Hanigan , Australia
71'Player substituted - Jack Dempsey , Australia
70'That's got Wales going. They build a good move down the left but it breaks down. From there, Matt Toomua kicks the ball over and through the Wales line. Wales have a scrum on the half-way line.
69'
It's taken almost 30 minutes but we have our first points of the second-half! Halfpenny squeezes the penalty inside the right post and Wales have the lead.
68'Player substituted - Sefa Naivalu , Australia
68'Substitute on - Jack Maddocks , Australia
68'6-3 Penalty goal - Leigh Halfpenny , Wales
67'Good move from Wales. They move it from left to right thanks to great work from Moriarty, who gets a big hit from David Pocock. Wales have a penalty...
66'Penalty Wales just inside the Australia half. It's too far out for Halfpenny so Anscombe kicks into touch.
65'Player substituted - Bernard Foley , Australia
65'Substitute on - Matt To'omua , Australia
64'That's better from Wales, who gain good territory with a mualing drive. Australia clear after winning a scrum just outside the 22.
62'There are 20 minutes to go, so who wants to win this game? At the moment play is stuck in midfield. So far this half any promising play has been undone by errors or penalties. That needs to change if we're going to see a winner.
60'Davies bursts forward and hands it off to Adams -- they've been Wales' most dangerous players so far -- but then the ball is knocked on by substitute scrum-half Tomos Williams. Not a great introduction.
60'Substitute on - Rob Simmons , Australia
60'Player substituted - Adam Coleman , Australia
60'Player substituted - Adam Beard , Wales
60'Substitute on - Cory Hill , Wales
60'Player substituted - Dan Lydiate , Wales
60'Substitute on - Ellis Jenkins , Wales
60'Player substituted - Scott Sio , Australia
60'Substitute on - Sekope Kepu , Australia
58'Beale, Folau and Naivalu combine nicely and suddenly the field opens up for Australia. But then captain Michael Hooper spills a pass from Genia and the momentum evaporates.
57'Neither team is able to build any momentum. After gaining ground Wales are penalised in the scrum and Australia win it back.
56'Player substituted - Gareth Davies , Wales
56'Substitute on - Tomos Williams , Wales
56'Player substituted - Allan Alaalatoa , Australia
56'Substitute on - Taniela Tupou , Australia
56'Substitute on - Rob Evans , Wales
56'Player substituted - Nicky Smith , Wales
56'Substitute on - Tatafu Polota-Nau , Australia
56'Player substituted - Tolu Latu , Australia
55'The lineout from Australia goes long and Wales look to counter. They have space out wide but Davies elects to clear. The Wales forwards catch up with play and force the penalty. Another opportunity missed by Australia, who have turned down the chance to kick for goal from around the 22 twice in the past five minutes.
53'Wales clear but Haylett-Petty finds a line and drives forward. Wales then concede another penalty in the breakdown and Foley once again kicks for touch.
51'The ball comes loose from the Australia maul. They couldn't gain any momentum there and the ball was eventually knocked-on by Alaalatoa. Wales will have the scrum from inside their 22.
49'Here come Australia, who have a penalty advantage. Beale has space but is swallowed up by the Wales defence. It goes back to Foley, who goes for the corner rather than taking the points.
47'Australia have a penalty but it's just too long for Foley to kick for goal. Instead he aims for touch and Australia will have a lineout from inside the Wales 22.
47'Foley has a kick charged down but recovers to boom it down the field, Halfpenny is there to clear up and boots it into touch.
47'Substitute on - Liam Williams , Wales
47'Player substituted - George North , Wales
47'Player substituted - Tomas Francis , Wales
47'Substitute on - Dillon Lewis , Wales
45'Important defensive play by Anscombe. Beale collects the high ball and suddenly has numbers in Kerevi and Folau outside of him, but Anscombe reaches out to intercept.
44'Folau almost breaks clear but it's intercepted by Davies, who pops it off to the Wales full-back. Genia collects brilliantly as Wales clear.
43'Anscombe switches it right and North gets up to keep it in play. Halfpenny picks up the move but is tackled by Pocock, who does what he does best and turns it over.
43'Halfpenny rises to collect Anscombe's kick and Wales are away. Josh Adams drives down the left wing.
42'And we're off again. Anscombe gets us underway and Australia will start with the ball, but that wasn't a great kick forward by Beale.
41'

If you missed it earlier, a late TMO call denied England a famous win over the All Blacks at Twickenham. New Zealand were 15-0 down after 25 minutes but rallied to win 16-15 in a thrilling match.

Elsewhere, a hat-trick from Tommy Seymour lifted Scotland past Fiji and Italy saw off a challenge from Georgia.

41'That penalty miss from Halfpenny rather summed that first-half up. Overall there has been little flow to the game, mainly because of the numerous penalties conceded by both sides. Australia have looked the more threatening side but we haven't seen enough of Genia, Beale or Folau. Wales have been slow and have struggled to gain any ground.
41'3-3 End of first half
40'How..? Halfpenny has just missed his second kickable penalty of the half. This one was an even worse miss, Halfpenny was in front of the posts but sliced it wide.
40'3-3 Start of second half
38'Penalty Wales. Alaalatoa was off his feet as he tried to turn the ball over. Chance for Wales to go into the break in front.
37'Wales clear into touch before Australia concede another penalty for collapsing the resulting maul. Good field position now for Wales to end the half.
35'Sefanaia Naivalu gets Australia going with a bursting run through the middle of the field. It's worked left to Naivulu then back inside as Coleman drives forward. But there are more problems at the breakdown for Australia and the penalty is awarded Wales' way.
34'
That's fine from Foley. We're all square.
34'3-3 Penalty goal - Bernard Foley , Australia
33'Penalty Australia. Dan Lydiate was caught offside as Australia tried to build. Foley will kick for goal...
31'Davies looks for Adams on the flank but the winger knocks it on as he tries to gather.
30'Penalty Australia as Alaalatoa causes mayhem in the breakdown. Australia kick for touch but Wales emerge with the ball.
29'But it's Australia that give away the penalty as the scrum collapses for the third time. Anscombe clears for Wales.
27'The scrum is reset twice by referee Ben O'Keeffe. Pressure scrum this for Wales inside their own 22.
26'Wallabies lock Adam Coleman knocks it on. Australia had built it up to 16 phases but Wales stood strong.
24'Australia work it wide through Genia and Folau to Haylett-Petty. They then move it from right to left. Good pressure this from the visitors.
23'Josh Adams flattens Bernard Foley before Beale drags Australia up the field with a well-placed kick. Australia win a scrum from the lineout.
22'
No problem this time for Halfpenny, who kicks the game's first points from the tee.
22'3-0 Penalty goal - Leigh Halfpenny , Wales
19'Penalty to Wales after Australia wheel the scrum. Halfpenny will kick at goal.
17'Australia win it back from the lineout and Dane Haylett-Petty clears into touch. Australia win it back again and the visitors start to build from inside their half.
16'Australia have looked dangerous when they've had the ball inside Wales' half. But they concede a penalty from the scrum after Allan Alaalatoa's elbow touches the ground. Anscombe kicks deep into Australia's half.
15'Australia turn it over through David Pocock and the Wallabies try to build inside the Wales half.
14'That's a rare miss from Wales' No.15. He pushes it wide of the right post.
12'Wales have the advantage as they continue to build. Anscombe tries to switch but it's read by Folau. Play goes back for the penalty and Halfpenny is preparing to kick for goal...
10'Jonathan Davies drives forward to roars from the home crowd. This is good possession from Wales.
9'Wales build from the lineout and Gareth Anscombe tries to find Josh Adams on the wing, but it runs out of play. Adams had plenty of space in front of him.
7'That was tricky from Folau, who booms the ball into the sky. Halfpenny collects brilliantly under the posts and Wales are able to clear.
6'Wales concede a penalty following Leigh Halfpenny's kick-and-chase. Bernard Foley kicks to touch to give Australia great field position.
5'Wales turn it over through Justin Tipuric and Gareth Davies clears.
3'Australia are moving it dangerously. Genia finds Beale as the Aussies work it from right to left. Hooper plays it wide to Kerevi but it's spilled. That was an early chance.
1'Early scrum for Australia in a promising position. Will Genia puts in and the Wallabies are off.
1'We're off!
1'Hello and welcome to ESPN's live commentary of Wales vs. Australia. There is a huge amount of anticipation amongst the home fans at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Wales have failed to beat Australia in their past 13 matches and have never done so under Warren Gatland. Meanwhile the Wallabies are playing their first match of the November Test series. They've had a tough year, but this will still be a massive challenge for the Welsh.
1'0-0 Start of first half
