AutoRacing, NHRA

MORRISON, Colo. -- Courtney Force topped Funny Car qualifying Friday in the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals, the first of three Western Swing events.

Force had a 3.966-second run at 322.73 mph in a Chevrolet Camaro to top the lineup after the first of two days of qualifying at Bandimere Speedway. The Funny Car points leader has four event victories this year.

"To come out here to Denver and kick off the Western Swing, it feels great to be able to have so far two solid passes down the race track and pick up six bonus points," Force said. "It feels good to be able to pick up a few more points and be in the No. 1 spot."

Cruz Pedregon escaped injury in a blower explosion during the first round. The explosion blew the hood off the 54-year-old Pedregon's Toyota Camry at about the 600-foot mark.

Leah Pritchett led in Top Fuel with a pass at 3.806 and 317.19 in the second session.

Greg Anderson was the fastest in Pro Stock, running a 6.933 at 197.19 in a Camaro. Eddie Krawiec paced the Pro Stock Motorcycles with a track-record time of 7.132 at 186.56 on a Harley-Davidson.
