ICYMI: The Simpsons' prophetic curling call, and Russians' gold-medal finale

Curling, Olympic Sports

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- The 2018 Winter Olympics are officially over, but there were still medals to be won on the last day of the Games. Norway and Germany finished with the most gold medals (14 each), Canada brought home a record haul of 29 medals, while Team USA made a late surge to come in fourth in both gold medals (nine) and overall medals (23). From more curling drama to Sunday's closing ceremony, we've got you covered.

Curling

A day after the Swedish men lost to the Americans, the Swedish women's team seized gold over the South Koreans, who were nicknamed "the Garlic Girls" after the main product of their home county. The Garlic Girls' run to the final in Pyeongchang has been one of the big stories of the Olympics. South Korea didn't even have a women's Olympic curling team until Sochi four years ago; now, they have become the first Asian team to medal in curling. Sweden, on the other hand, won gold in both 2006 and 2010, and silver in 2014.

Meanwhile, the U.S. men's curling team is still celebrating its first gold from Saturday, but we learned that there was actually another American curling victory over Sweden eight years ago.

Hockey

As the Olympic anthem rang out into Gangneung Hockey Center, the Olympic Athletes from Russia sang the words to their own national anthem, banned from these Games because of their country's state-sponsored doping scandal. Russia's first gold in men's hockey since 1992 came down to the wire. An unlikely German victory seemed in the cards, but Russia rallied to send the game to overtime, where Kirill Kaprizov's power-play goal sealed a 4-3 victory.

Closing ceremony

The athletes said goodbye to Pyeongchang on a winter night mercifully warmer than the opening ceremony. With Ivanka Trump in attendance, cross-country skier Jessie Diggins carried the American flag, the Olympic flame was extinguished, and K-pop stars CL and EXO dazzled -- and met one very ardent athlete/fan.
