PARIS -- French authorities say Lamine Diack, former president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, is facing additional charges related to the period when he ran the world governing body of athletics. An official with knowledge of the investigation told the Associated Press that Diack, who was president of the IAAF from 1999 to 2015, has been charged with breach of trust to the expense of the IAAF. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak publicly. Diack was already under investigation in France on money laundering and corruption charges. According to French media, French authorities suspect him of helping one of his sons, Papa Massata Diack, to misappropriate funds generated by sponsorship deals. In another case, Brazilian and French authorities are trying to find out whether Lamine Diack and his son have played a role in arranging alleged bribes to help Rio de Janeiro land the 2016 Olympic Games. The 85-year-old Diack has also been accused of covering failed Russian doping tests in exchange for money.
