Wilson Kipsang, Buzunesh Deba join field for NYC Marathon

NEW YORK -- Former champion Wilson Kipsang of Kenya and runner-up Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia have joined the field for the New York City Marathon on Nov. 5.

The New York Road Runners made the announcement Tuesday.

The 2014 winner Kipsang dropped out of the Berlin Marathon last month because of muscle cramping in cold, wet weather. The former world-record holder won the Tokyo Marathon in February.

Kipsang and Deba, who was the New York City Marathon runner-up in 2011 and 2013, will race against defending champions Ghirmay Ghebreslassie of Eritrea and Mary Keitany of Kenya.

Meb Keflezighi, 42, says it will be "bittersweet" to compete in the 26th and final marathon of his career, while fellow American Shalane Flanagan returns for the first time since her 2010 debut and runner-up finish.

Flanagan missed the Boston Marathon but says she feels "very refreshed" after taking 10 weeks off last winter to rest a bad back.
