Three Sweden coaches who quickly took off their silver medals after losing the title game at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship have won appeals against bans.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of Sweden head coach Tomas Monten and assistants Nizze Landen and Henrik Stridh. They faced bans of two or three games at the 2019 junior worlds.
The International Ice Hockey Federation said it "acknowledges the oversight" in rules that previously required only players to wear their medals "in respectful manner" for the postgame ceremony and interviews and has updated its rules for the next tournament, which starts in December in Canada.
The IIHF issued multiple-game suspensions against the players, including Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, who removed their medals. Dahlin, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2018 NHL draft, is suspended from playing the first two games of the under-18 world championship.
Team captain Lias Andersson was also suspended for four games. Andersson threw his silver medal to a fan in the stands after Sweden lost to Canada for the 2018 title in January in Buffalo, New York.
