ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild forward Charlie Coyle will be sidelined six to eight weeks after breaking his right leg Thursday night at Chicago. Coyle, whose franchise-record streak of 316 consecutive games will come to an end, had surgery Friday and was placed on long-term injury reserve. Forwards Nino Niederreiter and Marcus Foligno also were injured in the 5-2 victory. The Wild said Friday that Niederreiter is out at least three weeks with a left high ankle sprain, and Foligno will be out at least a week with a broken facial bone. Niederreiter suffered his injury while being checked into the boards, and Foligno was injured on a punch from the Blackhawks' John Hayden after his helmet was removed during a fight. The Wild said they would recall at least three players from Iowa before their home opener Saturday night against Columbus. "With injuries comes opportunity. We know guys have to step up," winger Chris Stewart told reporters Thursday. "We're one of the deeper teams in the league. When guys go down, you want to step up for your teammates. It was me [Thursday], and who knows? It could be someone else next game.'' The Associated Press contributed to this report.
