Dolphins LG Josh Sitton out for season with torn rotator cuff

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins got bad news Friday when tests revealed that left guard Josh Sitton tore his rotator cuff and will be out for the season.

Sitton was placed on injured reserve Friday. The Dolphins will not make an immediate corresponding move prior to Sunday's game.

Sitton suffered the shoulder injury by taking what coach Adam Gase called, "a weird hit" in last Sunday's win against the Tennessee Titans. He didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday.

"We've had an idea all week that he wasn't going to be ready for this game," Gase said. "After a lot of discussions with him and everybody in the organization, we realized the best option was for him to have surgery and not try to risk anything where it could prevent him from ever playing again."

Sitton will have surgery on his shoulder soon. Gase said the Dolphins anticipate having Sitton back in 2019 for the final year on his deal.

"Does it change things? Absolutely," offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said about playing without Sitton.

Veteran guard Ted Larsen will step into the starting lineup in Sitton's place.

Sitton, 32, signed a two-year contract with the Dolphins in March after the Chicago Bears did not pick up his option. He was one of the players Gase brought in, in hopes of changing the locker room culture.

Gase said he will not look elsewhere for an upgrade at guard. "I like my group," he said.
