Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane arrested near Seattle on DUI charge

NFL, Seattle Seahawks

Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane was arrested early Sunday morning outside of Seattle on a charge of driving under the influence, court records show.

Lane was booked into jail at 5:30 a.m. local time and was released on his own recognizance about four hours later, according to King County court records. He was heading eastbound on Interstate 90 on or near Mercer Island when he was pulled over, according to a jail spokesperson.

More information about Lane's arrest, such as his blood alcohol content, was not immediately available. The Seahawks have not commented on the arrest, but Lane tweeted Monday that his blood alcohol content was 0.03, which is below the legal limit.

According to the Washington State Department of Licensing website, Lane's case could still constitute a DUI under state law if a person "is found to be driving a vehicle under the influence or affected by alcohol, any drug, or a combination of alcohol and drugs, regardless of the concentration of alcohol in their breath or blood."

Lane, 27, has spent all six of his NFL seasons with the Seahawks, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2012 out of Northwestern State University in Louisiana. He was Seattle's primary nickelback from 2014 to 2016 and made 21 starts, including six this past season at right cornerback.

The Seahawks benched Lane twice this past season, first after he began the season as the starter at right cornerback and then after he took over on the left side following Richard Sherman's season-ending Achilles injury. In between, the Seahawks sent him to the Houston Texans in a trade for left tackle Duane Brown only to get Lane back when a failed physical nixed his inclusion in the deal.

Lane is scheduled to make $6 million and count $7.25 million in each of the final two years on his contract, likely prohibitive amounts for a player who doesn't project to be a starter.

Lane's most famous moment as a Seahawk came in Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots, when he suffered a gruesome wrist fracture after while returning a first-quarter interception of Tom Brady. Lane also tore his ACL on the play, forcing him to miss the first 10 games of the 2015 season.
