LOS ANGELES -- Nickell Robey-Coleman stood near Kayvon Webster right around the Los Angeles Rams' 15-yard line in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He heard one of the team's medical personnel mention something about an Achilles injury and paid his respects by taking a knee.
Webster, one of the Rams' starting cornerbacks, has been lost for the season.
Rams coach Sean McVay announced after a 43-35 loss that Webster ruptured his right Achilles tendon on a noncontact play near the end zone at the three-minute mark of the first quarter. He was carted off the field.
"Kayvon's my guy," Robey-Coleman said. "Kayvon and I go all the way back to high school. It means a lot to me that he's hurt right now. I pray nothing but the best for him, his recovery and his family."
The Rams suffered several injury scares in their Week 14 game, though none of them came close to Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz potentially tearing his ACL on a negated touchdown run.
Trumaine Johnson, who is on his second consecutive franchise tag, ended the game in concussion protocol, which means the Rams could be without their top two cornerbacks heading into a road game against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks next Sunday.
Left tackle Andrew Whitworth injured his ankle in the second quarter, but he returned in the second half. Right tackle Rob Havenstein injured his ankle in the fourth quarter and didn't come back, prompting Darrell Williams to enter the game. Williams was immediately beaten by defensive end Chris Long on an eventual strip sack of Jared Goff. McVay did not have an update on Havenstein.
Inside linebacker Alec Ogletree briefly exited the game but said it was only the result of cramping -- not because of the hyperextended left elbow that made him questionable for this game.
The big loss was Webster, who spent the past two years as a reserve on Wade Phillips' Denver Broncos and emerged as a starter with the Rams this season. Webster intercepted Wentz on the Eagles' first drive, setting up a quick Rams touchdown. But he left Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum wearing a walking boot and using crutches.
In his absence, Robey-Coleman will probably play on the outside in base sets, and Troy Hill will probably play there in subpackages, which prompt Robey-Coleman to man the slot. Blake Countess could also factor in.
"Very unfortunate," McVay said. "Kayvon's a great competitor. We love Kayvon, what he's meant for this football team, and guys are going to have to step up in his absence."
