Eagles sign former Giants tackle Will Beatty to one-year contract

NFL, Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former New York Giants tackle Will Beatty to a one-year contract.

A former second-round pick, Beatty started 63 games over seven season for the Giants, including 10 at left tackle during the Giants' 2011 Super Bowl season. He only appeared in six games in 2016, however, and has not played at all in 2017.

The 8-1 Eagles are looking for tackle depth as they gear up for the stretch run. They lost standout left tackle Jason Peters to a torn ACL and MCL in late October against the Washington Redskins. Second-year player Halapoulivaati Vaitai has taken over left tackle and to this point has held up.

That didn't stop the Eagles from exploring the tackle market prior to the trade deadline, however. There is not much proven depth behind Vaitai and right tackle Lane Johnson. Swing tackle Isaac Seumalo was unable to hold onto his starting left guard post and has struggled after a promising rookie year.

Taylor Hart, who is a former defensive tackle still learning offensive line, was waived as part of the Beatty move.

In Beatty, the Eagles gain some experience, though it's unclear just how effective the 32-year-old can be.
