Decorated former Australia captain Laura Geitz has retired from international netball, a decade after her debut with the Diamonds. Geitz said the timing was right to call time on an international career that brought 71 appearances for the national team, most recently at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games following a lengthy break around the birth of her first child. The athletic defender played in winning World Cup campaigns in 2011 and 2015, and was captain for the latter as well as the Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow in 2014. "These ten years have flown by and been an amazing journey," said Geitz. "The team's success on court is only one part of what netball has given me. "The experience and people I have met and worked with along the way have shaped who I am today. "I'm really looking forward to what the next chapter in my life entails, with more time to focus on work opportunities and my family." The Queensland Firebirds star considered retirement after having her son Barney in 2017, and said she had to adjust to motherhood before making her comeback this year at the Commonwealth Games took silver behind England. "While the gold medal game didn't go our way, it was a fitting event to finish my international career at," she said.
