Jencke feels at home with Firebirds

Being able to walk into a new building dedicated to the Firebirds' decorated history was a major drawcard for newly re-signed Super Netball coach Roselee Jencke.

The Queensland mentor's teams have won three titles and made two more deciders since she took over from Vicki Wilson in 2010.

Jencke this week extended her stay until 2020, with the opening of a new State Netball Centre next year firmly in her thoughts.

"Being able to train at one venue, being able to walk through the doors and have all our history plastered over the walls and have that sense of history," the coach said.

"It's exciting times ... and some fantastic young players are coming though and I want to be part of that."

After stepping down as the Diamonds' assistant coach last month, Jencke says she's fully committed to the state's netball program and has never had an urge to look elsewhere.

Charting the Firebirds' path to another title is the new challenge, with the side fifth and two points outside the finals after missing the top-four in last year's maiden Super Netball season.

"Every year you have to reinvent yourself and it's hard and that's what makes it so great," she said.

"We've been close, should've probably had two more wins than what we've got."

They face the winless Adelaide on Sunday, with a possible eight points up for grabs under the new system that awards points for every quarter won.

"There's always that unknown that they could click," she said of the Thunderbirds.

"We want to be challenged."
