Sunshine Coast players eye Diamonds spots

Sunshine Coast Lightning coach Noeline Taurua expects members of her victorious side to be rewarded with places in the upcoming Diamonds squad.

The side had a crushing victory over the Giants in the inaugural Super Netball grand final in Brisbane on Saturday.

The hosts recovered from a quarter-time deficit to control the rest of the contest and run-out 65-48 victors.

Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander is meeting with selectors on Sunday to choose an extended squad for next year's Commonwealth Games, as well as August's quad series and the Constellation Cup.

Caitlin Bassett is certain to be involved and her partner in the Lightning attack Stephanie Wood, who missed January's quad series tour with a knee injury, is expected to be welcomed back into the fold.

"I thought (Wood) was outstanding, she controlled the attacking end, with (Caitlin Bassett) and her moves were very smart," Taurua said.

"She had great balance in either off-loading or taking the shot herself.

"I thought she provided a lot of momentum in our attacking end.

In addition, Taurua feels the impressive form of centre Laura Scherian and wing attack Kelsey Browne should bring them into consideration too.

"The selectors have got some big decisions to make," Taurua said.

"They're thinking of the Commonwealth Games as well as the world (championships).

"The balance of playing experienced ones and looking at Scherian and Browne as up and comers...I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.

"The message has always been the same. If they can perform in a grand final then the door's open. They've put their foot through (the door) and now it's up to the selectors to pick them.

"It was fantastic for them as individuals."
