Steel netballers in Christchurch crash

Netballers from New Zealand club side Southern Steel are recovering after being involved in a road accident in Christchurch.

The Steel, riding high with a 13-0 record with two round-robin matches left, are scheduled to face the bottom-of-the table Mainland Tactix on Wednesday night.

A team van carrying six of their players ended on its side after a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Memorial Ave and Clyde Road in Fendalton just after 1pm on Monday.

Physiotherapist Corina Ngatuere says four players were taken to Christchurch Hospital's accident and emergency department as a precautionary measure.

"Everyone is stable," she said.

Two of those taken to hospital had been discharged and the two others were still being assessed.

Steel chief executive Lana Winders said the welfare of the players was the top priority.

"They are understandably shocked and our focus is on supporting them in their recovery," she said.

"We will reassess the situation tomorrow."
