Bailey maintains Vixens the ones to beat

Netball

An ANZ championship winner with Melbourne in 2014, Karyn Bailey is convinced her former side will take the inaugural Super Netball crown.

The Vixens' all-time record shooter left Melbourne in the summer after a knee injury curtailed her 2016 season, moving to the Adelaide Thunderbirds where she has endured a frustrating campaign with the bottom side.

While her own season has been disappointing Bailey has been pleased to see her former side on top of the standings and backs them to continue their form into the finals.

"I've said from the start that my old team the Vixens will win it," Bailey said.

"They're clinical all over the court and they've got Mwayi (Kumwenda) shooting who's very lethal and a deadly target.

"I think they'll take it the whole way beat the Sunshine Coast in the final.

"I will (be cheering them on). I'm still close with a lot of the girls and look forward to every time I go back there, to the competition and the hugs after."

The 30-year-old has not enjoyed spending extended time on the bench this season, sharing goal shooter duties with youngster Sasha Glasgow. Bailey did not feature at all in round 11, but showed scoring 25 from 27 after coming off the bench against the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane that she can still be a force at the top level.

"I've been really inconsistent this season so it's just about showing the girls and showing the coach I can still do it," Bailey said.

"Of course it's disappointing to not be picked. You work so hard during the week and put everything on the line to get on the court, so it's about doing everything you can when you're out there."
