Wildcats re-sign vice-captain Greg Hire

Greg Hire has survived the cut at the Perth Wildcats, with the vice-captain re-signed for the upcoming NBL season.

Hire's future was in doubt following the Wildcats' semi-final exit at the hands of Adelaide earlier this year.

But the 30-year-old bit-time player has been retained for another season.

Boomers trio Nick Kay, Mitch Norton and Tom Jervis have joined the club.

And the Wildcats pulled off a major coup last week by re-signing former NBA guard Bryce Cotton on a three-year deal.

The Wildcats have just one more spot to fill on their roster.

Hire began his career with the Wildcats in 2010 as a development player and has since gone on to play 209 games and win three Championships with his hometown team.

He said he was keen to keep passing on the values and morals that the club represents.

"That's been my identity for a number of seasons," Hire said.

"Irrespective of how many minutes I play or the impact I have on the court, I know I can play a valuable role in terms of imparting what it means to play for this club.

"I've been very fortunate to be a vice-captain for coming up on five seasons; to be bestowed that position you have to make sure you give back."

Hire was recently named Western Australian of the Year in the youth category for his charity work and initiatives to help provide mentoring and promote mental wellbeing for at-risk youth.
