Corey Webster insists he returns to the New Zealand Breakers a reformed man after signing a three-year deal with the NBL club.

The classy Kiwi shooting guard announced his return on Thursday to the club where he has twice departed under a cloud of controversy.

He insists that won't be the case again, having improved as both a player and a person during stints in Israel and China.

Webster, 29, said he always planned to return to the Auckland club where he was first signed as a development player in 2008.

An initial four-season tenure ended prematurely when he was released by the club following a drug violation.

Forgiven for that mistake, Webster was an influential figure during his second four-year stint at the Breakers but he struggled in the final season with injury and twin charges of assault hanging over him.

After being released early, he was found guily of the charges last August and was discharged without conviction.

Webster isn't hiding from his past.

"I have done a lot of growing as a person and learned a lot about myself and what I want to be," he said.

"So I think the timing is perfect for me to come back, not only as a basketball player, but also as a man and a father.

I am just in a better place all around."

New coach Kevin Braswell said getting Webster back to the Breakers has been a priority.

His shooting and vision will be a focal point of the four-time champions' offence.

"Quite simply he is world class," Braswell said.

"He is what every championship-contending team wants and must have, an outright scorer, one who can hurt teams in a variety of ways."

Braswell has overhauled the roster significantly since Paul Henare's surprise departure as coach.

Tall Blacks big men Mika Vukona, Alex Pledger and Rob Loe have all left following Kirk Penney's retirement.

Braswell has snapped up Melbourne United forwards Tai Wesley and Majok Majok, leaving him with three more spots to fill, including imports.
