Sydney Kings release American import Jeremy Tyler

NBL, NBA, Sydney Sydney Kings

The Sydney Kings have all but admitted to giving up on making the NBL play-offs, releasing import centre Jeremy Tyler two months after he arrived.

The 26-year-old Tyler has averaged a healthy 14 points and six rebounds in his 10 games since but the last-placed club has opted to place more focus on developing its young frontcourt.

"We thank Jeremy Tyler for his efforts since he joined the Kings midway through the season and we wish him all the best as he takes on his next challenge," Sydney Kings Managing Director Jeff Van Groningen said in a statement on Tuesday.

"He is an undoubted talent and his skill set is unique. However, at this time we are keen to look closely at some of the young big men both on our roster and on the edge of it."

Van Groningen said the roster move would create opportunities for young, home-grown talent to get some serious court time, citing 20-year-old Isaac Humpries and 23-year-old Dane Pineau as possible long-term players for the Kings.

"We believe Isaac Humphries is an exciting player and possesses attributes that, combined with hard work, could see him achieve great heights down the line, while Dane Pineau's development this season has been pleasing," he said.

"We are excited about the future but concurrently, this is a time for all current Kings' players to compete hard, maintain high intensity and bring maximum energy to Qudos Bank Arena.

"We want every game to reflect a desire to ensure that the Sydney Kings experience success - both for the remainder of the season and beyond. I can't wait to see who stands up."
