Elfrid Payton likely out 6 weeks with fractured pinkie finger

NBA, New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Elfrid Payton will have surgery on his fractured left pinkie finger and is expected to miss approximately six weeks.

Payton suffered the injury during the Pelicans' victory over the New York KnicksĀ on Friday. He had missed the previous nine games because of an ankle sprain before returning to New Orleans' lineup.

The Pelicans announced Monday that Payton will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the fracture.

Payton, 24, is averaging 9.7 points, 5.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds in six games this season, his first with the Pelicans.
