Brent Barry returning to Spurs in front-office position

The San Antonio Spurs hired television analyst and 14-year NBA veteran Brent Barry to their front office, naming him vice president of basketball operations Monday.

Barry, who won titles in 2005 and 2007 with the Spurs, has been considering a move into an NBA front-office role for several years.

San Antonio's RC Buford and Gregg Popovich have been enthusiastic about bringing Barry into the team's management almost since his retirement in 2009.

Barry, 46, replaces Monty Williams, who left to become an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers.
