Elfrid Payton agrees to one-year deal with hometown Pelicans, sources say

Free-agent guard Elfrid Payton has agreed to a one-year deal with his hometown New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Payton, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, was traded from the Orlando Magic to the Suns in February. He ended up starting all 19 of his games with Phoenix.

Payton averaged 12.7 points, 6.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds during his 2017-18 campaign, while shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from 3-point range.

The fourth-year guard was born in Gretna, Louisiana, and attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
