Marreese Speights declines option with Clippers, to be free agent

Center Marreese Speights has declined his 2017-18 player option with the LA Clippers so he can become an unrestricted free agent in July, Speights' agency ASM Sports announced Tuesday.

Speights made the veteran minimum of $1.4 million for the 2016-17 NBA season and would have earned $2.1 million had he picked up the option. Speights should draw interest from several teams looking to add depth in the frontcourt if he doesn't re-sign with the Clippers.

Speights played in all 82 regular-season games and averaged 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds. He also made 37.2 percent of his shots from behind the 3-point line.
